Stem cells are a class of undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into specialized cell types. Commonly, stem cells come from two main sources:
- Umbilical cord lining from donor (Mesenchymal stem cells)
- Adult tissue (adult stem cells) primarily adipose (fat) or bone marrow
Both types are generally characterized by their potency, or potential to differentiate into different cell types (such as skin, muscle, bone, immune, etc).
How Can Stem Cells Rejuvenate or Repair?
The desired result will determine the type and course of administration of stem cell therapy. For general Anti-aging purposes, stem cells are injected intravenously over the course of approximately one hour, along with a high dose of vitamin C to maximize effectiveness. The stem cells flow freely through the body and find areas in need of repair and rejuvenation. Most clients observe a dramatic improvement after only a single treatment.
If the desired result is specific, such as physical injury, the administration of stem cells will be applied directly in to the area of the body in need of repair. For example, to re-grow cartilage in the knee, a doctor will determine the proper course of stem cell therapy, which may include growth factors, and treat the damaged knee directly.
